From a certain point of view, dried tangerine and Pu-Erh tea are made for each other. From the Ming dynasty, dried tangerine started to be treated as a very special tea because of its unique medical value and natural fruity aroma. Pu-Erh was brewed together with dried tangerine by coincidence in the Qing Dynasty. Since then, this combination has become popular throughout the country.

During the production of the tea, the green tangerine was dried which helps to retain its ball shape in order to wrap the Pu-Erh tea leaves inside. The green tangerine of our orange-peel style Pu-Erh tea comes from Xin Hui in Guangdong province which is the hometown of dried tangerine and famous for its best mandarin garden. The technology of making tangerine is regarded as one of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This particular Tangerine Ripe Pu-erh is made by the well-known Fuhai Tea Factory. The tea leaves wrapped inside are 2011-year Emperor’s Royal ripe Pu-erh tea leaves originating from Meng Hai County in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province.

Our 2019 Fuhai 8596 Pu’er Riped Cake uses sun-dried Shaiqinmao tea leaves (Yunnan big-leaf variety) from the Blang and Nannuo Mountain areas. It is produced by Fuhai Tea Factory in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province. This Pu’er combines the powerful, wild aroma of Blang Mountain tea with the fruit- and honey-accented sweetness of Nannuo Mountain tea.

This tea cake uses the 1985 tea formula produced by Fuhai Tea Factory; the tea is graded 9. As noted above, Blang Mountain Pu’er tea has legendary status. Nannuo Mountain is another area producing well-known, good-quality Pu’er. Its total tea-producing area is over 21,600 acres, including 12,000 acres of ancient tea plantations. The Blang people actually began planting tea in the Nannuo Mountain area before migrating; the Aini people then took over tea cultivation here. The average altitude is 1,400 metres; the annual precipitation is between 1,500mm and 1,750mm. The average annual temperature is around 16℃ to 18℃. These are also excellent conditions for growing tea trees.

The varieties of trees are directly introduced from the Lao Bang Zhang, belonging to Yunnan large-leaf arbor tea trees.  Each of our Fuhai Bang Zhang has its own unique identity number, through which, the detailed origin of every single Pu-erh tea cake can be traced. Compared with the unaffordable price of Lao Ban Zhang, the chance for tasting this young organic Ban Zhang Pu-erh is truly special!

In the natural ecosystem, the mutualistic symbiosis of species is the result of long-term natural selection.  Fuhai Bang Zhang Organic Tea Garden utilises the ecological environment of the tea garden to achieve successful pest control. For instance, when tea trees were planted, one camphor tree was also planted every 10 meters for pest control.

The minimal human intervention’s organic farming, excellent tea tree species and the unique natural environment all together produce this prestigious organic raw Pu-erh tea cake.
