About Pre-rain Anji White Tea (An Ji Bai Cha) 2025

Anji White Tea comes from Anji, Zhejiang. Though named “white tea,” it is actually a green tea, known for its unique spring “albino” buds that appear pale in cold weather and gradually turn green as temperatures rise.

Compared with our earlier Mingqian version, this Pre-Rain tea is aimed at daily drinking. The leaves are picked from organically managed tea gardens in Anji’s core region; slightly more mature than Mingqian buds, giving the tea fuller body, better endurance, and the clean sweetness typical of Anji White Tea.

*This tea is grown without the use of chemical pesticides.

Appearance & Taste

Pre-rain Anji White Tea (An Ji Bai Cha)

The dry leaves are slender and elegant, green-yellow in colour, clean and well-sorted. Brewed buds open softly, yielding a bright, clear liquor. The taste is light, sweet, smooth and refreshing, with no bitterness. Less sharp than Mingqian but rounder and more durable, it maintains steady sweetness over multiple infusions—ideal for everyday tea drinking.

Taste: Floral, Fresh, Grassy, Herbal, Orchid

Picking & Production

Picking Tea

Picked in the early morning as one-bud-one-leaf or one-bud-two-leaf shoots, Pre-Rain buds offer balanced freshness and structure. After light withering, they undergo low-temperature fixation, shaping, and gentle drying to preserve the tea’s clean, soft character.

When I heard this was actually a green tea, I just had to try it! If you’re a white tea lover, I think you’ll definitely like this. It has a similar lightness and sweetness on the palate but has the added herbaceousness of the green tea varieties.
