About Keemun Maofeng Black Tea (Qimen)

This Keemun Maofeng comes from the high-mountain core region of Qimen, Anhui, at 600–800 m in the Huangshan range. The area’s misty climate, cool nights and mineral-rich red and sandy loam soils provide ideal conditions for the Zhuye cultivar, known for its rich aromatic precursors. These factors give Keemun its signature layered “Qimen fragrance” of floral, fruity, honeyed and light woody notes.

Keemun Maofeng is crafted from carefully selected early-spring buds and leaves. The tea features slender, tightly twisted strips with a glossy dark hue and subtle golden tips, offering a refined dry aroma with the distinctive “Keemun fragrance.” Keemun Maofeng has been highly regarded since the late Qing era and earned a gold medal at the 1915 Panama Exposition.

Tight, slender dark leaves with subtle silvery tips and a gentle orchid-like dry aroma. The liquor is bright amber, smooth and sweet with a light briskness. Origin

Qimen

Keemun Maofeng is produced in Qimen County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province — a renowned high-aroma black tea region centred along the golden tea latitude of 30°N. The mountainous terrain, abundant mist, cool nights and deep, mineral-rich soils allow tea trees to accumulate aromatic precursors that create the unique “Qimen fragrance.”

Picking & Production

Picking Tea

Picked around Qingming, selecting one bud and one leaf, then spread thinly to preserve freshness. Slow bamboo-tray withering encourages even moisture loss and aroma development. Light rolling shapes the leaves without breaking them, while controlled fermentation brings out floral-honey notes. Low-temperature multi-stage baking balances aroma and moisture, yielding a refined, smooth Keemun style.
